Colin Ng is obsessed with anything to do with brass instruments, particularly the French Horn. Started out as a Mellophonist in 1987 at 9 years old, then assigned to Euphonium in 1990; Colin discovered the French horn towards the end of that fateful year and fell in love with the instrument ever since.

In his quest to play good music, the blessing of not being gifted rewarded him after many years of seeking knowledge and exhaustive problem solving in areas of equipment, physiology and psychology. Colin started playing in tertiary level bands in 1992 and also teaching younger horn players since 1995.

From 1997 to 2003, He was conscripted into the Singapore Armed Forces Band and served as Drum Major in his tour of duty through the 3 service bands. He was part of the adjudication panel for the Singapore Youth Festival Marching Band Competitions in 2000 and 2002.

Since 2003, Colin conducts school military bands and symphonic bands. He also apprenticed in band instrument repairs in Topbrass and Windworks between 2009 and 2011.

Viennese horns and tri-valve rotary horns became part of his obsession since 2006, driving him into acquiring 2 Viennese horns and a Czech tri-valve double. The madness continues. Also in pursuing the best possible combination of equipment to find the horn sound in his head, Colin acquired a sizable collection of mouthpieces from makers and of varied designs to understand their character and function on different types of horns.

After being disabled from playing for 2 months due to a 'professionally' guided embouchure change, Colin took on the practice of the Balanced Embouchure (BE)  In August 2011; He miraculously recovered overnight to greater facility in horn playing. Later in December He accidentally broke his lower front tooth and hence, researched into both Master Super Chops (MSC) and Tongue Controlled Embouchure (TCE). It does seem that with each major freak accident or misfortune, Colin will learn something new to help him cope with the ordeal and eventually surpass his previous level.

Colin is currently music director of the Woodlands Ring Symphonic Band since 2004 and plays horn in WestWinds, Band of the Bukit Batok Community Club since 2011. In 2013 , He is appointed French horn Instructor for both primary and secondary level in the  Music Talent Develeopement Centre (MTDC).  Colin also played for the Summertimes GoldBrass quintet, Summer OomPah and the Orchestra Paradigm.
